hear hear and well said, now that I am back on the list actively and know
about 3.5 I'll be installing it on my system as well, if you use a .net
function, the application will since they added the boot strapper in 1.1 go
get what they need, so you might as well develop in the most advanced
version available, as said, if they don't have it when they install, the
system should go get it, or at least offer to get it.

Well the difference between the versions is how much functionality you
will need from the .net framework itself. version 2 will have more
functions available to it than version 1 etc. etc. But as I said, 2 has
been a bit more widely used thus far. Also keep in mind that if you
create an installer in Visual Studio 2005 and up it will most times check
the users computer and if it needs to have .net installed then it will ask
them if they want to install it. I would recommend though if you are
creating a new project that will require .net go ahead and use the latest
version of .net available because the updates may also be Microsoft bug
fixes that were present in previous versions.

Yes, .net 2.0 looks like the best choice, but how good are the chances
that users may already have it? Also what about .net1.1? Should .net1.1
be completely out of my concideration? Is there any value for the thought
that since .net1.1 is one of the oldest framework version it is likely
that most users may already have it?
My personal choice is .net 2.0 though.
Also can .net3.X will be able to run .net 2.0 apps or it is necessary to
have .net2.0 installed.
Thanks,
Niran

It would mostly depend on what OS you are developing for. For XP .net
2.0 is probably the most widely used. For Vista either .net 3.0 or 3.5.

Hi,
Does anyone here have any idea about which .net framework version is
most widely installed?
Does targetting a specific .net version improves the chanse that users
may not need to download and install the .net runtime.
Any thoughts are welcome.
