For your first problem of closing the "Designer:
Ctrl-F4
Closes the current MDI child window
Here are a couple of other general hot keys:
F7
Switches from the design view to the code view in the editor
Shift-F7
Switches from the code view to the design view in the editor
Ctrl-Alt-L SolutionExplorer
ctrl+alt+x ToolBox
f4 Open PropertiesWindow
Ctrl-J
Lists members for statement completion when editing code
Alt-Right Arrow or
Ctrl-Spacebar
Displays statement completion based on the current language or autocompletes
word
if existing text unambiguously identifies a single symbol
Ctrl-Pagedown
Moves to the next tab in the document or window (e.g., you can use this to
switch
the HTML editor from its design view to its HTML view
Ctrl+PgUp should go back.
These are some I pulled from a rough document but I never finished a
polished version so it has allot of untested hot keys. I have used the above
ones I believe in VWD 2008.
There are several others I have used that enhance accessibility and improve
your speed but since I never finished the series of articles I am not sure
how many I have detailed examples of in the works.
A key factor in working in the IDE is having set it up for accessibility.
You don't need scripts with WindowEyes but I think you might with JAWS.
See if the above hot keys work in your setup to help start getting around
the IDE.
You likely know you can also navigate by selecting items under the View Menu
or, as Jacob mentioned, right clicking a file and selection options from the
DropDown list.
