Url shortening with Python

Hi,
Does anyone happen to have a good url shortening function for Python? I
am working on a Twitter plugin for the Linux media player Rhythmbox. I
would like for the url shortening service to be bit.ly to stay in
Twitters lead, but any url shortener will do.
