UltraISO update

Checking disk capacities, there's plenty of room on my dvd, but when I go to
burn the image it sits for a long time then says the drive isn't ready.
I'm giving up till tomorrow. I am wondering if I need to forma t these disks
before using. Is there something I need to do to prepare the disk for
burning?
