look at msdn.microsoft.com...or just Google for wpf getting started tutorials. both silverlight and wpf are very similar. silverlight is a tad more accessible with screen readers although jaws is getting better with wpf very quickly. On the other hand, silverlight is slightly harder for a beginner because all communication with the server side is asynch and so on (you mentioned saving a value to a DB). You can also look at the fruitbasket example I posted at Jamal's site some time ago. Start by learning the xaml syntax. The designers in vs or expression blend aren't accessible but with xaml you'll quickly realize you don't need it at all. In fact, I develop very complex wpf and silverlight UI-based programs for my clients and all the people in my large team (everyone else is sighted) use xaml directly rather than muddling with the vs designer or blend. These are useful tools to learn though and if they are a part of your course, don't let your teacher let you opt out of these. as a blind programmer, I don't think we had a more accessible way of designing thick client UIs before xaml -- the end result we create isn't currently all that accessible though. All the database stuff is just regular programming and you should be ok reading anything there. You may also run into the new microsoft entity framework where you have to draw a visio diagram for your entity mapping model. Visio is very accessible but if you do have the entity framework in your course, drop a line and I can share what I currently do for that. hope that helps. -Manish From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Celia Rodriguez Sent: Wednesday, June 01, 2011 10:40 AM To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Silver light and WPF Thank you so very much.. I have only one request. I am to start a summer class in July and I have a little problem. The last C# classI took touch very little on WPF and I didn't even have to work on that program because my teacher thought I could not do it. Well my next teacher does expect me to know something about silver light and WPf. I want to do this. Can someone if , you have the time point me in the right direction. I want to be able to wright a program as simple as enter your name and WRITE IT TO A DATA BASE OR FILE. Unfortunally I know nothing about this. I do't even knowwhere to begin. I know I am asking for too much. I have read about silver light and WPf, but I still don't know where to begin. If anyone has a little spare time can you help. I really would not like to , be honest, sound stupid at the beginning of the class. Especially when I found that my teachers treat me different because I can't see. I want to be able to pull my weight in this class. So I have one month to learn all about silver light and WPF. In advance thank you all that can help . Celia PS. I really would like to create my own little system before I start class. I know I am asking for too much. But I aim high. Currently I have VS10. __________ View the list's information and change your settings at //www.freelists.org/list/programmingblind -- Jacques Bosch Software Architecture and Development Independent Contractor Cell: +27 824711807 Fax: +27 86 504 4726 E-Mail: jfbosch@xxxxxxxxx
