The task is in the subject. Each of the major ops gets a task and they see witch does it the best or fastest without problems or work arounds. We all know the power of those ops. So that is a give in, but jobs is where the screen readers can show there power. What he is looking for on the list is types of tasks to give them. hence the dual!

I don't get it Jamal. What is the actual goal of your presentation? Is it OS everyday use, work related accessibility, or operating system trivia? What is your target audience? Are you looking to entertain the geeks or the everyday users? This is very important as you don't want your audience falling asleep on you. Its a little clear that you want to demonstrate the capabilities of each of these operating systems, but in what capacity? Are you presenting the processing time of each of these operating systems? Are you wanting to talk about the type of programming environments each OS runs?--hope not as you will bore all but the most hardcore geek.Matthew ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamal Mazrui" <empower@xxxxxxxxx> To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2008 4:45 AM Subject: RE: Seeking possible tasks for Dueling Operating Systems at CSUNAgreed, Chris. Whatever the politics that led us to the Windows situation today, the reality is that Narrator is not intended as a full fledged screen reader and someone wanting to use Windows will typically be using a commercial one. So, if blind consumers are comparing operating systems, these are the practical choices they currently face. Of course, there are other viable screen readers for Windows -- I just asked an excellent JAWS user I knew to be a presenter. The presenters agreed for the event to be publicized and recorded in whatever ways possible, so let me provide the presenter's names in case this is of interest: Mika Pyyhkala on Windows, Pratik Pattel on the Mac, and Mike Pedersen on Gnome. It is worth noting that Mike works for Sun on Orca. Janina Sajjka was the original presenter for that system, but a schedule conflict arose. The other presenters were comfortable with the new arrangement, since they feel that they knew their technologies well. We decided against a formal scoring system with a panel of judges, but will let the audience make their own judgments based on what is important to them. SATOGO, a commercial no-cost reader is an interesting exception but, in terms of breadth of applications supported and total features doesn't quite reach JAWS or WE at this point in history. This is apples, oranges and even hot dogs being compared but that's also the state of the software available to blinks. cdh -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ken Perry Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2008 12:58 AM To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Seeking possible tasks for Dueling Operating Systems at CSUN Then for Linux you could not use Orca because it is not part of the OS only Mac would win that contest. We need to do this kind of thing seriously. I would say don't use Jaws use System Access it is free if you use the online version Thus you could say Mac is free voice over, Linux is free Orca and Vista free as well.
