Steve,

Do a google search on "InstantRails".  This is a free, all in one solution for 
users of Windows.  It includes Apache, MySQL, Ruby, Rails and more.  It is all 
preconfigured to just work!  I'd also suggest the "RailsSpace" book on Saffari 
site (I forget the full title).  I've tried lots of other setups and books.  
These are the best of what I've found.
