there are also a number of blindness related groups on yahoogroups, not all programming related, but that could prove a resource as well, and is, or wasn't too hard to search.

There are other lists besides this one that would be of interest -- forexample program-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and the nfb and acb computer science relatedlists. There is also blindwebbers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and nfb-web@xxxxxxxxxx for web programming by blind. I'm sure there are others as well.If you want a current list of nfb sponsored lists, go to www.nfbnet.org andlook at their list of mailing lists -- you might find some good resources. For example, while math is not exactly the same as a computer programminglist, there is a list called blindmath that discusses math at all levels forblind, and that gets into computer access quite frequently. Anyway, thought I'd pass it along. Good luck. --le----- Original Message ----- From: "Dale Leavens" <dleavens@xxxxxxx>To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, October 19, 2007 6:34 PM Subject: Re: Number of folks on the list There are other lists of course with some member duplication and probablyseveral times more not on any mailing lists. My brother was a programmer for four decades most of which were before the Internet, many before programmershad keyboards let alone access shortcut keys. Then there are amateurs like me who are on lists but not really programmers. The numbers are a guide only but nevertheless a useful starting point. It would be kind of a waste to spend so much time and effort on a utility that will only help 5 people. Ifthis is a graduate school thesis or research project or something similar, the more people he can state he is helping the better a case he can make for funding and such. I say there are hundreds of programmers that would benefit from his work and possibly hundreds more in the future that will also benefit from the development of such accessibility by his research team. C'mon guys, wink wink, nudge nudge. My research lab is looking to determine approximately how many blind computer programmers are even out there at all. The NFB tells me it doesn't take statistics on it, neither do equivalent organizations in england or canada. Asking for raw membership numbers, unconnected to individuals, doesn't seem particularly intrusive to me ...
