I just downloaded FileDir yesterday, the default sort order seems to be most recent folders at the top. I guess this amounts to reverse date order. I think you are used to alphabetical sort order. To switch to this sort order, press Shift + A. Not sure why all of your files and folders are not showinng. Try to use the up, left, and right keys as well as the down key to see what files and fpolders are there.
I really like the Shift + F command to send to my FTP Server! The find files using regular expressions will make life easier as well. The more I force myself to use this program, the more useful, no indespensible, I will find it!

Hello Jamal and listers, No it's still not showing all files in folders particularly in those with a large amount of files. I tried your suggestions and the view didn'tchanged. I compared the file view in File DIR with that of My Computer. Theydisplay properly in My Computer but not in File DIR. They're listed with random filenames beginning with a particular letter and are out of order. Perhaps a "List All Files in Folder" option could be added to correct thisproblem. I tried it again while writing this note but got the same results. Please investigate further. One or more symbols after the file name indicate attributes: \ for a folder, ) for hidden, ] for read-only, and } for system. The keys corresponding to the same symbols may be used to change attributes. For example, pressing ( when a hidden file has focus removes that attribute. So what all can I get displayed with FileDir? EdSharp does not change general Windows settings. It has its own appearance, which is different than Windows Explorer. By default, FileDir does not replace Windows Explorer; it is anotherapplication that may be launched to manage files and folders. There is anoption (not the default) to make FileDir open instead of Windows Explorer whenever one tries to open a folder. For example, if you download a file in IE, there is a button for opening the folder into which the file was placed. Windows Explorer is still on the computer, but not the program that opens if one explicitly chooses this option (a shortcut in the FileDir program group of the Windows Start Menu). That is the only "gotcha" that comes to mind, and as mentioned, it is not a default setting -- nor an irreversible one. Let me know if there are more questions. Thanks for your interest. I don't remember much what I did with it, but I stopped usingit at the time as I was in a hurry to do some things and didn't have time then to read the manual, and didn't know how to do some basic operations. So it is helpful to have the manual upfront. A few questions: Does it honor the view settings I have in the folder options? Or does it have its own view options that are different?Does it replace WE (that windows explorer, not window eyes) in displayingall folders, such as the desktop? Are they any other gotchas to watch for? I look forward to using it eventually as I love the feature set as described in your announcements. --le ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamal Mazrui" <empower@xxxxxxxxx> To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: "Dennis Brown" <DennisTBrown@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, April 12, 2010 5:28 AM Subject: Re: New Ed Sharp and File-Dir Releases If anyone would like to browse the documentation of these applications before deciding whether to install them, I have now made their manuals separately available as follows: EdSharp http://EmpowermentZone.com/EdSharp.htm FileDir http://EmpowermentZone.com/FileDir.htm Jamal On 4/11/2010 11:44 AM, Dennis Brown wrote:Where can I find a write up on these programs? By default, all files should be shown, though this may be changed with the Filter command, Control+F. I forget what the default sort order is but there are hotkeys to change it, e.g., Alt+A for Alpha order, Alt+D for date/time order, Alt+S for size order, and Alt+T for type/extension order. Adding a Shift modifer key reverses the order, e.g., Alt+Shift+S is reverse size order, so the largest file appears first. Subfolders are listed before files. If there are several subfolders, you can press Alt+B to jump to the beginning file in the list. Jamal On 4/11/2010 9:47 AM, Jamal Mazrui wrote:Hi Peter, I think the ghost lines problem is a JAWS one. Plese report a reproduceable example to Freedom Scientific. I think it can happen in any text editor (the problem has been confirmed on this list). If I suspect JAWS is incorrectly reading a line, usually up and then down arrowing will fix the problem in the JAWS off screen model. NVDA probably does not have this problem because it gets text in real time from the RichText API, rather than using an OSM. Currently, only data CDs can be burned. If I find a free library for doing audio CDs or DVDs, I'll try to add such support. There are several things I'd like to see addressed in future upgrades. In Ed Sharp I'm seeing what I'll call "Ghost lines" when editing text and Web pages. These get very annoying. I've deleted some of these ghost text lines/strings only to discover that the original line of text I entered was also removed. We're using Windows XP SP2 on an HP Pavillian PC with JAWS 11.0. I hope this information will help you troubleshoot this issue. Second in File Dir I've noticed that the program tends not to list all of the files in a folder. Is there a setting I need to change to correct this. I was viewing my "Oldies" folder that has a huge amount of files in it. When scrolling through the file list I'm not seeing files listed sequentially one after another. For example I'll see a filename beginning with the letter "A." One would believe that all files beginning with that letter would follow. Instead they're followed by other files listed randumly. When viewing files in a folder I want to see them all listed sequentially. How do I fix this or will this issue need further investigation? Concerning the CD burner does one have the ability to burn either audio or data CDS? If so great. Otherwise I'd like to see the ability to select the type of CD one wishes to burn such as audio and drive image CDS, and DVDS added in future upgrades. Thanks again for these great products.
