I got Version 2.2.9-5. That is what is in the Ubuntu Lucid repository. I
do not have any unstable or Ubuntu testing repositories in my Software
Sources list at the moment. The amount of packages it needs to install to
meet the dependancies for gnu cash varies on what is already installed. I
only point it out because that should be tyypical for most Vinux users. The
gnu cash package itself has a Installed-Size of 5380.

Haven't had that happen yet. Which version did it grab for you? Was
it gnu cash 2.29? Or did it grab a 2.3 rc?

I installed the program. It was simply, gnucash. So the command:
sudo apt-get install gnucash
worked to install it. It installed 27 packages taking up 81 MB.

Hi, Don,
I found it on synaptic just fine. From the table containing the
software just start typing gnu cash real fast and it should jump you
to the vicinity of it. I'm proetty sure you can use apt-get to put it
on the machine but I am not sure about the syntax. It's either:
sudo apt-get install gnucash
or,
sudo apt-get install gnu-cash
I am not on a linux machine right now to test it out for sure.
Synaptic should work just fine for you though. Stable version right
now is 2.29 but they have quite a few release 2.3 candidates. They're
aiming for the next stable release to be 2.4. I think they're up to
2.3.39 right now in the rc versions if you are feeling brave.
Supposed to do all sorts of nifty stuff with sql.

Do you know if Gnu Cash is available as a package in Ubuntu Maverick or

Thanks, Jamal. Be glad to share the results with you. So far,
Firefox is in the lead for the most popular FOSS app. VLC and Open
Office are next in line. Hardly anyone's heard of Gnu Cash. That
surprised me. It's a very nice program actually. For accessibility
though, it works better in Linux than windows. Also, and this didn't
surprise, most people don't care if the source code is available on
software or not. NO price tag is enough for them. Only about 10% are
exclusive open source users right down to the OS. Most Open Source
suers are in the "Use it for some things" category. Then there was
the huge number who had never heard of open source.

Hi, all,
Very sorry to send such a blanket e-mail but I'm in a fix. I've
been
asked to create a survey for a school project and generate 20
responses after which I need to gather them up in a presentation.
The
survey is called "How do you feel about Free?" and deals with the
use
of free software in general and open source software in particular.
I
would appreciate it no end if you guys were to take it. It's only
10
questions. The link is below. Just click on it and you'll be in the
survey. Send it to all your friends or to anyone you want to annoy.
I'm totally OK with you using my survey to annoy somebody. Anything
to generate responses. :) Here is the link:

Thanks to all who respond and apologies to those whose inbox I've
filled with junk mail.
Best regards,
Alex
