Subject: .NET 2.0 documentation converted from HXS to structured text
Now available at
http://www.EmpowermentZone.com/net20doc.zip
This large zip archive (about 25 megabytes compressed) contains structured
text versions of documentation for developing with the Microsoft .NET 2.0
Framework. The documentation was converted from files in Microsoft Help 2
format (.hxs extension) that were installed with the Express Editions of
Visual C# 2005, Visual Basic 2005, and SQL Server 2005. The purpose is to
provide an alternate format that may be easier to search, browse, and read
for some users of screen reader programs, as compared to the nonvisual
usability provided by Microsoft Document Explorer or other readers of the
native help format.
The .hxs files were initially converted to HTML with ABC Amber HXS
Converter, which is commercially available from
http://ProcessText.com
Subsequently, Custom utilities eliminated redundant header or footer lines
and created structured text that may be used with any text reader. Such
use is particularly convenient with programs that implement the "Homer
editor interface," e.g., EdSharp, which is freely available at
http://www.EmpowermentZone.com/edsetup.exe
About 90 File names, -- listed below -- were changed from cryptic
abbreviations to meaningful phrases by inspecting their initial content.
Since the conversions involve approximations, they are intended to make
valuable content more accessible, rather than attempt error-free
translations.
