RE: Jaws version needed for Windows 7

Does this explain why my jaws comes up in Windows 7 and I enter my password and
the computer is silent? I hit the application key and then hit j.

Cheap commercial competition, and free open source competition. :)

I think he was just outlining a workaround to get through the prompts. I'd hope

especially when its chief commercial competition handles UAC so seamlessly.

Hello:
Thanks for the explaination of this. I only have one comment. Isn't the
UAC supposed to protect you by showing you -what- is trying to change
your comp? If Jaws just locks up, "just hitting alt+y" is slightly
counter productive to the reasoning for UAC in the first place it seems.

Hello,
As a general rule if you are launching an application (and I emphasize
you)and UAC comes up-characterized by a sound (applies to Windows 7)-you
would hit the key combination Alt+Y for yes...this also applies to when JAWS
is being installed for the first time or if a new version is being
installed; at least from my experiences, the JAWS installer will ask you to
hit enter to reboot the system and continue installation (but not always)
and after logging into your account UAC comes up. Generally, this is not a
problem if you only have one account on the system as the login screen
usually will have your name highlighted if you didn't set a password at
which point you would just hit enter. Otherwise, your name would be
highlighted and you would hit enter and type your password and press
enter.-just hit Alt+y for 'Yes' and the installation should continue.
As far as a process beginning at the login screen and then re-initializing
itself after logging into the account-that has to do with the security
protections of Windows 7. JAWS needs to run in an elevated rights mode in
order for it to access the login screen and then reload itself into the
users account at the privilege level of the user of the system.

HTH,
Steve

Yes, jaws does tend to lock up on UAC. And for one reason or another, it
starts some sort of new process on login, then restarts itself after you
log on.

Good evening,

Can I confirm that even the newest build of JAWS 11 doesn't work with the
UAC dialog in Windows 7? I have to use NVDA everytime I need to interact
with a UAC dialog.

Thanks,

Hi Listers,

I must replace my 5 year old computer, and the new one will have Windows
version 7. What is the first version of JAWS that will support Windows 7?
I am licenced for JAWS 9, but not later.

I have spent quite a while today searching the JAWS website for this
information, but without success. It must be there somewhere, but I

somehow

missed it.

Any information would be very much appreciated.

TIA.
