Re: Java Deprecated on Mac

Microsoft expensive in comparison to anything for a Mac, don't make me laugh,
you go find a hard drive that is "permitted" in a Mac, and then tell me the
price, I bet I can find a 3 different drives of similar quality for have the
cost to the Mac, plus unless I'm under first year warrantee, it don't cost me
service options to open my PC

so that money statement can be put somewhere!

Ha ha! Oh, M$ is worse than Apple by far if you ask me! But it's not
comparing apples with apples. Apple does really try to make their OSX
accessible out of the box, and it's still the best value for money if you want
a high quality speech system. Vinux is on their heels though! Watch out Apple!
Ha ha.

Evart Zuveld pointed out it's only Apple's own port of the Java stuff. Maybe
Oracle could offer Apple to make it work on OSX as well? Besides, as Andreas
pointed out, maybe IBM + Open JDK will be a solution for Mac -- I despaired too
soon.

Real quality software should be architected in such a way that the core is
platform nutral, like what Boost is offering for example.
After that GUI interfaces should be swappable so that if worst comes to worst
you could create a specialised GUI for each platform -- or one web GUI.

After all, great code should port easily.

I do, however, don't think one should code in something that is absolutely
impossible to run on anything but one platform when it comes to general purpose
business software where you want to target a large market. With that said, even
with .Net these days Mono is forging ahead so that .Net apps might become
easily portable to non-Windows. Moonlight, the Mono version of Silverlight
actually runs on Ubuntu in Firefox I was amazed by this! It's totally
inaccessible, but that's nothing new since Silverlight is as well.

Anyway, I do think even with Apple's closed and frustrating approach to
everything they have something going for them and I for one would keep trying
as hard a as possible to have anything I code run on OSX as well.

I looked at GNU Step and Cocotron, but it doesn't seem to be a viable option
for developing on Windows for Mac and Windows. It seems like Cocotron can make
apps developed on the Mac compile so it can run on Windows, but you can't
develop those apps on Windows -- you need XCode.

  Cheers

Microsoft just put out a new windows live messenger and once again all

    Hi,
Lol finally! Someone who feels like I do about them. Although in this case,
who can blame them... If a successful app runs on their platform... Maybe
they'll get some of what Google got for using Java.
