ok. I was thinking jsp was windows for some reason. sorry about that.
I'd rather go dedicated. Just me though. I've seen too many chanes, where it's like "o, sorry, that broke? can't do anything about it, until I get ahold of my web providor, who has to get ahold of his, who has to in turn get ahold of the server provider, and yeah, we'll call you back in a month or so."

JSP is usually served on linux servers, not windows. There's no reason for him to get a dedicated or virtual server when you arn't sure if the business is going to take off and if your only doing basic programming. Not only is it more expensive but you need to know how to be a system admin as well instead of just a web programmer. By the point you need a virtual or dedicated server the business profit will more then pay for it.

See this link.

Also I know you sue java a lot if you want to sue jsp to create the site your going to pay a lot and a lot of shared jsp hosts won't let you use librarys such as hybernate and spring. PHP is the best language to use as far as generall availibility but you can find some cheep asp.net hosts as well.

All,
Hoping someone can point me to some documentation or a host. I have a
friend who is wanting to start an internet based business. We need to
find out how to purchase a domain name and get some space on a web host
somewhere. Any pointers would be helpful.
