If a serious 508 suite of tests is done of all of the Oracle products that have a UI, one will find that they would all fail - some in a few areas, others across the board. They didn't have to drop the bridge to provide sucky accessibility to their programs. There are approximately 300K Oracle database installations worldwide. There are approximately 2 million mysql systems deployed. If Oracle doesn't become accessible, 508 coordinators can use a switch to mysql as the engine to get Oracle to remedy its accessibility problems. Oracle did keep its accessibility engineers who are working on OpenOffice but it remains uncertain if they will continue to release source code to OpenOffice as it progresses. A new group calling itself the Document Foundation has forked OpenOffice and launched LibreOffice which is FLOSS forever. We have tons of stuff that volunteers can do at FSF/GNU so, if you have time or energy, we have lots of tasks that need to be accomplished and many are high priorities. We are coordinating our efforts as best as we can with the Gnome Foundation and other FLOSS organizations so as to avoid stepping on each others' toes or wasting time doing multiple fixes to the same problem so, if you can't find a GNU task to work on, the folks at Gnome Foundation and probably the new Document Foundation will certainly have something for you to do - just remember to tell them I sent you <laugh>. cdh On Oct 10, 2010, at 9:11 PM, Stanzel, Susan - Kansas City, MO wrote: > Hi Listers, > > I have not stepped into this until now.
