That's your own story and I don't have reasons not to believe you, but I can also tell you that the system admin of the company I work for, which is a Linux admin, couldn't find the reason why that computer that was running Linux could print only to some printers, not to all of them.

I have never had trouble doing anything you're talking about. I am not sureabout the active X stuff however because I have never had to.
