*shrug*, it's alright, but I wouldn't use mobile devices as an example of
where it excels. To me the true benefit of it is the open source nature that
allows it to be so easily modified for fringe uses, which then grow into
quite mainstream uses. Mobile devices is just one example of that. The
actual kernel itself or the technologies behind it doesn't impress me all
that much though.

It's pretty impressive when you think OE Linux has now taken over Tom tom
and Magelion GPS because it's easier for them to modify. Android is another
place where the OE Linux kernel has jumped right in there. I think the wave
is just starting to head for its crest so yes I do believe its impressive.
Come on guy you have recently adventured into coding for Windows CE and
you're going to tell me it's better than something like OE Linux? Just
remember trying to get your dll's signed and put on the device.

Is it all that impressive? Really? 18 years, and that's all they have to
show for it ... Not sure how impressive it is.
I think all of the offshoots are much more impressive than the current state
of the over bloated, sometimes sluggish, Linux kernel. Sure you can
customize the kernel to no end and speed it up to lightening speeds, but
*shrug*, I'm not impressed. It's merely acceptable. Maybe that's just
because I feel so strongly that it can do so much more.
I think open source, community driven software, third party small
developers, and things of that nature, in the Linux community, are much more
impressive than the actual Linux kernel itself. It's frankly not that
disciplined.

Do you know approximately when Unix started to work under PCS?
I guess when Linus Torvalds started to create Linux it wasn't possible to
use Unix under a PC...
