Thanks Ken! there you go guys. A really, really simple but powerful action. Just attach this list to some popular website for the blind and visually disabled and spread the word! Oh ya, students get all kinds of goodies from some companies ie. Microsoft if they only know where and how to get them. Now, who has a professional website? What about one of theNational Federations or Associations etc... They have sites visited by many blind folks in many professional fields and are well known by many in the Accessibility Community. They are also likely to be one of the first sites visited by newly blind students with computers. One more might be the NLSB or other groups who provide text books and, or, translation services to educational institutions and students.

If we had a web page that supported blind coders and this list was attached to it I could probably get us in the APH monthly news letter which goes outto all school systems Ken -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of RicksPlace Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2011 2:29 PM To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Could we organize to mentor new blind coders? One suggestion might be to figure out a way to inform all blind or visuallyimpaired students at all High Schools and Universities of this list - perhaps through the Screen Reader companies or through tvarious State Agencies. In other words, we already have a system like this in place. I'll be glad to help out if I can. Cheers, Joseph ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Cox <waywardgeek@xxxxxxxxx To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date sent: Thu, 21 Apr 2011 10:25:40 -0400 Subject: Could we organize to mentor new blind coders? Instead of trying to start an on-line school for blind programmers, would it be possible to organize as a volunteer organization to mentor people with vision impairments to become good programmers? For example, you guys mostly had to figure it out on your own, so you can say you've already trained one programmer. What if we try to get people to train two? So, if several of us agreed to train one person with a vision impairment for free, and over a long period of time, and in return we ask those people do the same for two other people, could we build a growing organization of mentors with vision impairments large enough to make a real difference?
