as far as I know the best ide is eclipse which you can get to from the link off
of my grab bag site (URL under my name), in the editors and IDE's section of
the homepage (use h2 header navigation then hit the letter h to jump down
through the sub-sections of the portion of the page)
as far as books I'll have to leave that to the users out here.
