Have you specified the exact path of firefox?

Well, I don't use Auto It, but I use AutohotKey which is built out of
autoIt (initially I guess). In AHK script, there's a run command to
start a program. If it doesn't work, it raises a message box briefing
the reason of failure.

This sort of stuff (and many other advance one) I have done with AHK
and I find it quite cool.

I don't think I've answered your question, but if it is possible for
