Generally, your DNS server will just be known by an IP address - and may be 
acquired automatically. 
 
What was the exact path of the hosts file that you executed?

would it help if I flushed the DNS? I tried, ipconfig /flushdns, and it
didn't do anything... will try that in a bit... not at my laptop at this
moment.
