Hi David,
thanks for the feedback. If you have any more specific issues with the
actual products please post some feedback. Would love to get some more from
you on the actual shortcomings of the products who use jaws 5 or higher.
Also, may I include your email for contact if the oracle rep would have
questions? Praniv, may I include your email as well/contact information?
thanks.
Justin

Hi again,
On this point, I refer everyone to Oracle's own accessibility web pages
at:
http://www.oracle.com/accessibility
And particularly for JAWS users, the FAQ at:
http://www.oracle.com/accessibility/faq.html
Remarkably, for eBusiness Suite, Oracle are still recommending JAWS 3.7u
as the most stable offering. But it does recommend JAWS 5.0 or higher
for everything else.

Hi Justin,
They should stop using a proprietary virtual machine for Java. The only
accessible part of oracle is the SQL plus commandline utility.
Everything
else to be accessible requires very old versions of Jaws and is very
difficult to get working in any case. By everything, I mean right from
the
installer to the graphical environment for writing queries and working
with
the database. For example, I cannot use the graphical version of SQL*+
to
write stored procedures or view the items of the database schema.
One good thing they have done in terms of accessibility is the oracle 9I
documentation. I cannot comment on oracle 10G.

Subject: [program-l] oracle and accessibility
All,
I just got a phone call from an oracle sales rep asking me if I was
satisfied with oracle's products. Well, I explained how the
accessibility in
the products were lacking significantly compared to Microsoft. I
explained
that blind programmers can easily suggest most Microsoft products as
accessible development tools since the accessibility is strongly
supported
by Microsoft. I explained that oracle has been aware of their
development
tools lacking in accessibility for several years and seem to be dragging
their feet. The sales rep emailed me a contact to have me email the
contact
exactly what we are wanting from oracle. I have no clue if this contact
will
be able to do anything but am coming to the list to ask for logical and
well
thought out complaints and suggestions that I can pass onto oracle. For
example, what products are lacking in accessibility, what comparable
Microsoft products can you use efficiently as a blind coder and cannot
with
a similar oracle tool and so on. Basically get me all complaints and
suggestions that you can. I am going to gather them and email them onto
the
oracle contact and will report back what I hear to the list. You never
know
folks, I may be barking up the right tree this time round. You just
never
know. So, please submit suggestions, complaints, and so on to the list
here.
I will gather them and email to the rep.
Perhaps it may only be me and David Lant who have issues with oracle's
lack
of accessibility in their development tools? *grin*. I hope not!
All feedback *strongly* encouraged.
Thanks.
Justin
