Dick: Are you blind and are you certified? If the answer to both questions is yes, do you have any helping hints? What assistive technology did you take in? How much extra time were you given? With the possible exception of focus traversal, I doubt that you will find that any of the additions to Java since v1.4 have deprecated the material from v1.4. If that is a concern, I believe that Sun has maintained a list of deprecated classes and methods somewhere on their website. Java 1.5 included major changes to focus traversal that broke a lot of code that was written earlier. Of course, there have been a number of additions to Java since v1.4, such as the addition of generics in v1.5, but the fundamentals haven't changed. By the way, Java 1.7 has now been released. We will start using it in our computer labs in the Spring semester. The most significant difference that I have found so far between 1.6 and 1.7 is that programs compiled using the 1.7 compiler cannot be executed using the 1.6 JRE. I know Jim Corbett has passed the exam. I would love to hear from anyone else. Jim is in Canada so his experience with the testing organization might be different than what others have had in the United States. My questions would be what was your study method? What was the reaction when you wanted to take your assistive technology to be used? I would like to have both my JAWS and Braille display. I find it much easier to keep track of everything like those parenthesis. Did any of you get the practice test from whizlabs? How many times did you have to take the exam to pass it? How much time were you given? Susie Stanzel Programmer for the United States Department of Agriculture I am really hoping for a response on this -- Richard G.
