Roger

Are you actually in the folder when you execute the command?

Hi Jim,

That didn't work.

First of all, for some reason, My Documents is in my back up drive (D) called
New Volume. After changing the C to a D at the start at the line, the command
prompt claimed:
D:\My is not something but when I retry I am told that the syntax is incorrect.
Whenever I do anything inside the command prompt I am read the address of
where the shortcut to the command prompt is kept and seem unable to interact
with this in anyway.

The address of the file is:

D:\My Documents\javac Welcome.java

Any ideas?

Roger

Roger:

As for My Documents: try c:\Documents and Settings\Default User\

As for the Command Line: You must be in the directory via the prompt, next
type Javac MyClass.java for example. The class path must be set ahead of
time by the way.

Jim

Hi Jim,

No it isn't.
I've tried using run through the start menu also but to no avail - I don't
know if this makes a difference.
Also wondering if I could just click the file and open with jdk.

Roger

Hi:

Is this a networked machine?

Subject: [program-java] Command line problems

Hi all,

Using Windows XP with Jaws 9 - sadly.

Presently working on O U project and need to start a java program through
the command line.
I've tried entering the syntax as given but no go.

The file I need to run is called Welcome.java and is presently in My
Documents.

First of all, can anyone supply the correct syntax using javac to run a java
program and

Secondly, can anyone tell me what the address of My Documents is on a
machine with a single user set up on it.

Many thanks

Roger
