Amerika, yaitu sejumlah 79,736 orang. Padahal biaya
kuliah tidak tanggung-tanggung; di sekolah peringkat
atas atau Ivy League (Harvard, UC Berkeley, CalTech,
Stanford, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, MIT, Wharton,
Chicago) tuition fee $22,000 atau $26,000 keatas per
tahun. Lagi pula perolehan student visa lebih sukar.

India tops again in US varsity enrolments=20

India has retained its No.1 slot in US university
enrolments for the third year in a row, defying the
overall negative growth on inflows of international
students into American campuses.

Undeterred by the sharp rise in US tuition costs and
the perceived difficulties in obtaining student visas,
India sent 79,736 students (up 6.9 per cent) to
American universities during 2003-04.

Figures collated by the US Institute of International
Education's Open Doors 2004 survey reveal how India
has held its own in a year that otherwise saw a
decline of 2.4 per cent in US enrolments of foreign
students =97 5,72,509 as against last year's 5,86,323.

Three years ago, India stole a march over China to
emerge as the US's leading country of origin of
foreign students.

India has not only held that slot, but has been
sending more students each successive year. In
contrast, China's tally of 61,765 this year represents
a 4.6 per cent dip.=20
With the latest increase, Indians now account for 13.9
per cent of international students on American
campuses. However, India's rate of increase this year
has slowed from last year's 12 per cent growth.
