2 Killed in Attack on SUV Convoy in Iraq=20

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Gunmen opened fire on a convoy of sport utility=20
vehicles Sunday in the Iraqi capital, killing at least two people and=20
injuring a pregnant woman, witnesses and officials said.=20

There were conflicting reports about what transpired after the first=20
volley of shots, which appeared to come from an oncoming vehicle.=20

Some witnesses and policeman Gazwain Sami said that after the SUVs=20
crashed in the hail of bullets, attackers emerged from the traffic=20
and dragged five or six "Western-looking men" away.=20

However, two other witnesses, Khalid Zaalan and Qays Husseid, said=20
that after the attack, armed Western men jumped from the wrecked=20
SUVs, commandeered a passing car at gunpoint and escaped.=20

Three vehicles =97 pocked with bullet holes =97 could be seen crashed=20
along highway barriers. Two vehicles were set ablaze by a jubilant=20
crowd, which danced and cheered in celebration.=20

One body, wearing a flak jacket and soaked in blood, remained in the=20
driver's seat of one of the vehicles.=20

Mazhar Abdullah, a doctor at Al-Sadr hospital, said a family of three=20
was caught in the crossfire. The husband was killed and his wife, who=20
was six-months pregnant, was injured, the doctor said.=20

The couple's young son was slightly injured, he added.=20

It was unclear how many people were in the vehicles or what their=20
nationalities were.=20

SUVs are often used by U.S. officials, civilian contractors and other=20
foreigners in Iraq (news - web sites).=20
