Hmm...your description is different from my result. When I use pazik,
the color of the background characters is a slightly darkened version
of the background color----it is not the same color as the font.
I compiled using your powerdot_template.tex (but with the standard
pazik style) and the pdf is attached.
So, I do not have this issue.
