I believe so. Wide screen monitors are at 16:9...whereas paper=screen is designed for 4:3. 
Is there an options to override this 4/3 setting?
You can specify paper=a4paper or paper=letter, but this will not be want you want either. So no, there is not yet an option for 16:9.
