I'm sorry. Who is TED? And does he talk well?

Love this discussion. And then, I think of a TED talk, so many of which

Certainly a positive contribution to the modern art of storytelling, isn't
it?

Some argue that the internet gives us back much of the negative aspects of
oral tradition without much of the benefits. A sort of fear-based
neo-tribalism, where many retreat into mutually reinforcing ahistorical
like-minded groups. As Randy mentions, increasing literary illiteracy
without returning us to any kind of substantive oral literacy. This
particular combo seems to me to be particularly toxic to the kind of
cultural memory necessary for critical thinking and a healthy body politic.

Visually illiterate because we don't use our eyes anymore because our world
is so abstracted?

Just watched the Peter Greenaway documentary "Rembrandt's J'Accuse" - Rick
Dahms recommended it. Greenaway makes the point that we have become
visually illiterate over the past few centuries even though we are awash in
images. Interesting.

Might have something to do with Photoshop being way over-engineered. What
other popular software out there requires the user to search the screen for
a teeny, 3 pixel, non-intuitive symbol or icon to display an important but
confusing menu, all just to do what should be a common function? Photoshop
is a dinosaur at the beginning of the Age of Mammals.

hmm, I must have a strong opinion on this...
