I'm afraid I can't help much. Most of my journal is available through 
university subscription.

In fluid mechanics, online version of "Journal of Fluid Mechanics" might be 
free. (At least it used to be free). Just search for that journal using google 
or other search engine. BTW, European Journal of Operational Research was free 
when I looked at it two years ago (again search for it).

NASA Langley Research Centre website (www.larc.nasa.gov) has a lot of free 
paper from their research activities (Ranging form space-craft to geophysics). 
Other NASA centres are not as generous.

Free university text book (those that is out of print) is normally distributed 
by the author on line. I can mention computational Fluid dynamics related book 
here. (Sadly, my research interest is quite specific, now; Can't comment on 
other field)
