Windows update won't work and the latest release of windows live messenger needs a legal install to work. Photobucket and eBay should both function fine, likely Java has not been installed or Flash. You can test for Java installed here http://www.javatester.org/ and for Flash you can go here http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ What version of XP is installed on the laptop?
