Now it works, now it doesn't.
You know what they say about parents who don't know how to let go when their
big children want to go their own way.
Perhaps it's time for me to let go with this printer cable.
It worked for a few days, and now it's back to its old shenanigans.
Actually, I only have to put up with a wasted page in the beginning of the
first print job of the day, and an occasional print job that won't.
I'll live with that.
Besides, I have four printers hooked up to this computer. If I get really
frustrated, I'll just print to a different printer.

I'm an old-fashioned kind of guy. I like typewriters. Imagine a device that
prints immediately - the first time and every time. Type a K and it prints a
K. Right away.

Thank you, Hugh, Ed, and Clint.
It works!
I had three installations of the printer. I didn't think the others that
were not used would matter, but apparently they were interfering with the
final version. I do have multiple installations on other computers, and they
do not cause problems.
I reinstalled the final version on this computer, and then I deleted both of
the previous versions.
I found an additional possible cause for the problem. One of the ports was
set up for TWO printers! I don't know whether that was the cause for the
problem, but it was one of the drivers that I deleted.
Why would Windows install two printers on one port? Strange.
After handling these things, I turned off the computer for a few hours. When
I turned it on, all was well.
I'm back to saving the trees. I don't know how to save dolphins, anyhow.
Thank you.

David, perhaps you should go to 'Devices and Printers'
and check to see if you have an extra version of your
Printer Installed. If so, it is probably using that extra
version which has the Gibberish page, then Prints the
requested pages. I often find an extra version of my
Printer installed, and I just select & delete.
