-=pctechtalk freelists=- Re: locking up

Just a reminder to all of you who use mailing lists like "freelists" -- there's
a good chance three things will happen.

1) your mail, in most cases, will not be filtered into the usual folders by the
people who receive it. This may result in delays to your getting an answer.
2) in some cases, people who run SPAM filters may not receive see your mail at
all -- the SPAM filters may "kill" it.
3) if the receiver hits the "reply" button to respond to your request, the list
will not see the answer unless the recipient adds PCTechTalk address to the
E-Mail (extra work). This, of course, is a negative for all the rest of the
members of the list who may also be interested in seeing the answer to the
question posed.

I recognize that some people may have good reasons for using webmail accounts,
but please understand the ramifications.

Many people send me notes privately and I enjoy them -- specially if the E-Mail
topic is "off topic" to the list (ex. food recipes). E-Mails that are sent
directly to me asking questions that should be asked to the list will be
directed back to the list as that's how we all learn. I think I speak for all
the mods and G Man when I say this. None of us can answer individual E-Mails
on technical questions -- the volume and time just gets to be too much. Most
importantly, we don't have all the answers. The beauty of this list -- the
STRENGTH of this list, lies in all of us participating and sharing our
knowledge (or in my case "the lack thereof" <chuckle>).
