A friend of mine, their computer has had episodes of locking up, crashing,
freezing, etc. It will go for a while just fine & then it will start up.
It's random when it does it, they are not doing anything in particular when
it happens, could be when they start the computer up, or getting email or
whatever. They are not doing the same thing every time it happens. It's a
Celeron 533 mhz, 128mb mem. They have win 98 2nd ed in the computer. They
have an antivirus program, which they keep updated, we've gone through the
file checker feature, disk cleanup, defrag, win doctor, etc. Basically, the
only thing they use the computer for is the internet. The only programs
they have in the computer besides windows is printshop, which they don't use
too often & Norton systemworks 2000. We even formatted the harddrive &
started fresh & it was OK for a while, then it starts crashing again. I
tried a different video card & change memory modules. I finally disabled
Norton's crashguard but I haven't heard back from them if that helped or
not. Their computer tower is right next to the frig & I was wondering if
there could be some sort of "interference" that could be the problem.
Grasping at straws on that one.
