-=PCTechTalk=- router hookup to laptop

I am going with a friend tomorrow to her daughter's college.
there are 4 kids in an apt. 3 of them can get a connection 
from the router, but my friend's daughter can't. (she can 
get it when she is at home from their router).

I don't know the brand of the router - all they said is that 
it is the color white!
I am totally clueless here!! From what I can tell, she has 
to somehow get the password/security code from the router to 
tell her computer to look there. She is prompted for a 
password, but the password that the other kids use does 
nothing for her.

Where do I start? If I have to log on to the router's 
'address' or whatever it is - how do I find out what that 
is? My son said that I might need to do that in order to get 
a security code. (????????)

Please help!! ASAP !! we're leaving here around noon EST 
weds.
