Since I'd probably mess up trying to type this up again, I'm just sending
you the email my son sent about hooking up to the internt - his dad is going
space tech at age 78 :-)
He wrote: Do you still have a lot of on-line friends/sources of computer
help? Dad bought a computer ( a lap top like mine) and I was trying to get
him online. He signed up for a dial up service through his phone company.
No problem, I set it up and set it to dial "pulse" instead of "tone", since
he does not have tone service on his phone. Even though it is set to pulse,
it still dials tone - and that does't work. So you hear the dial tone, then
the tone dialing, then the dial tone - since the phone line can't recognize
the tone sounds - it needs pulse. And then, since it doesn't think you've
done anything, you here, "If you'd like to place a call, hang up and dial
again..." I checked on-line and I know I have it set for pulse dialing
correctly. Any chance you can ask arround. All I can figure is there is a
Windows Vista update or something that fixes the problem, but I couldn't
find anything in an internet search.
Me again - I'm not sure why he doesn't have tone service on his phone as
never heard of that but thanks from Dolores for her son and his dad :-)
