Gman,

While waiting for those new SATA cables I opened up the computer and
proceeded to do a thorough inspection of cables. All looked good
including the power connectors. I then figured "what the heck" and
tried swapping around the cables where they connect to the mobo. The
error still exists.

I am beginning to think this may be a controller issue. I have four
SATA connectors on the mobo. All a different color (are they color
coded per industry standard?). They are arranged like this:

XX
XX

The DVD burner is connected to the top left. The hard drives to the
ones on the right. The DVD has not been moved. The original hard drive
was originally connected to the top right.

I assumed the primary set was the two on the right. The secondary set
on the left. As such:

SP
SP

Is it likely the actual arrangement might be:

PP
SS

That would put the hard drive and the DVD on the same controller. I can
not think of a reason why that would make a difference, but that doesn't
mean it doesn't. Does SATA have primary and secondary controllers like
the old PATA did?

I'm off to the HP website to see what I can find.

OK. I'm back. The data connectors are numbered and colored as such:

2 white, 1 black
3 blue 4 yellow

I could not find anything anywhere in the HP support pages that indicate
where to connect drives or even if it makes a difference.

The mobo is an ASUS M2N68-LA made for HP (HP name is Narra3).

Don
