-=PCTechTalk=- hard drive issues need help

hello when I try to copy to my external hard drive I get a message
says something to the extent.
"can not copy file, the path to the file can't be found"
it can to be found I just copied or atempted to copy the stuff over to the 
hd
the drive then locks refuses to power down
I have to unplug it to get it to turn off
is plugged in to  a usb hub
1.1 only not 2.0
any suggestions?
my drive dieing?
if so any way to back up 120 gigs of stuff to disks, any proggies to disk 
span etc.
I need some help I have music I have ripped from my collection and don't 
feel like having to re do it again.
I have like all my cds sitting on my external hd in mp3, ogg, and wma.
