I've got my PC as 'attack proof' as possible...every single Microsoft update
is applied, firewall is always up, AV always running and updated (or checked
for update) daily and I do a complete scan every other day. I delete any
mail with an attachment before it hits my inbox, if I ever get a pop up
offering a download, I NEVER download it. Anything I DO download (i.e. -from
Downloads.com), I always run Spybot immediately after to check it hasn't
installed anything I didn't know about.
Yesterday, I downloaded nothing at all.
Fired up the PC this morning, and I got a message that AVG had spotted a
virus in winnt/system32/pctptt.exe...I did the scan , sure enough, it came
up with a dialler and fixed the problem.
How? How on earth could that have got onto my system?
