-=PCTechTalk=- Strange Folder Created

Yesterday, apparently during the WIN XP Pro install (or during the updates and
other associated installations) a new folder was created on my external hard
drive.
Folder "a82b667ddf6712320a" contains a document named
"%temp%dd_msxml_retMSI.txt".

The document is a text file, but when I try to open it with Notepad to see what
is in it access is denied. Properties does not reveal anything unusual such as
read only or hidden status.

Trend Micro reports no viruses or other infections are found.

The hits at this Google search result page probably contain the answer but I
don't know how to decipher it.

The best I can figure out is it might be a leftover installation file of some
sort (probably a log file). But why is it on the external drive instead of the
drive where the OS and updates were installed?

Can the file and folder be safely deleted? Obviously, I would have to get
access first, but how do I do that?

I am the only user and full administative rights.

I discovered this folder and file while booted to XP Home. After sending this
message I will log on under XP Pro and see what I can see there.

Am I worried? No. Just curious.

Anybody here know anything about this?

Don
