-=PCTechTalk=- Safe Mode Freeze

Hi:

I have an interesting problem.  My laptop boots fine (normally) in normal
mode.  However, when booting into safe mode it will freeze.  I have waited
for a few minutes and know it is frozen as the cursor is frozen, the time in
the taskbar is not moving and the sidebar gadgets (cpu and memory monitor)
are not moving.  The only way to get a response is to do a hard shut-down
using the power button then reboot.  I have not tried rebooting into safe
mode again because I am afraid of getting the same response again.  I tried
booting into safe mode sometime ago to do a Malwarebytes scan because I
thought I had an infection from a webpage I visited from a Google search
that brought up an invitation to download Vista Antivirus 2009.  I did do an
antivirus scan locally and online (in normal mode) and a Malwarebytes scan
in normal mode and no viruses/malware was found.  But, it did reveal the
problem of starting in safe mode.

Any help would be appreciated.
