-=PCTechTalk=- Re: winxp processes running

Hi Christine,

Ok it is all rather confusing the first time around
but it will make sense very quickly. Now I do not
currently use this program but I have in the past on
older machines (it runs on win 95 thru XP)and I have
just installed on mine so I can see how it works in
the new version and follow what you will be seeing.

First lets try this:

1. Go to this site and download the (free) program.
http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrol.html
This is a known and respected program but always
download it from the owner's site if you can.

2. After you have downloaded it install and run.

3. You will be presented with a screen with several
tabs across the top. You will be interested in each
tab so take your time flipping through them - at the
moment there are two that are of prime interest to
you. The first one is the default one which lists the
startup programs - the other one is the one called
active tasks. But they are all important. Many are
important to running your daily tasks and you will
quickly learn which ones. Some are not so important
and there may be some malicious ones in there as well
(malware).

If you highlight any title (by clicking on it with the
mouse) a second window opens that gives you more
information on the process that is running. You can
get more information by asking people on this list and
by searching the web but usually there is enough
information there in the popup window.

Just relax though - it looks really overpowering at
first but soon you will be a real pro.
