a .rar file is a WinRar file. It is like winzip. It is a compressed file,
like a .Zip file.
I do not think Win Zip Opens .Rar files.
Here is a link to the program: http://www.rarlab.com/
WinRan can open Zip files.
A word of warning. Compressed files 'can' have virus's in them. I would be
sure I KNEW who the file was from and ask the person if they sent them.
My Norton will scan the compressed file as it comes into my mailbox, so I
know it has been scanned by the time I see it. I had received one last week
that Norton gave me an adware warring on. So, forewarned is forearmed...I
hope.
Hope this helps...

I was at my neighbors today. She received RAR files.
On her computer, it claims they are to be opened in adobe
acrobat reader - which, of course, won't open them. She does
not seem to have a program to open them.
I don't recall putting a program on my computer that opens
them - I just get the option with a right mouse click.
Does anyone know what she needs to open them? Is it a
setting in winXP ?
thanks!
