You don't have to purchase the 64-bit version of Windows 7 BUT if you want
to do an "in place" upgrade (keeping your settings and programs), you'd have
to get the 64-bit version (probably professional or ultimate).  I think that
the upgrade price diff. is $20.00.  The Ultimate version also has
Multilanguage support and bitlocker to go, so that you can "secure" the data
on USB devices so that if they are stolen or lost, bad people can't get your
information.

If you go either from a 64 bit version to a 32-bit version OR from a higher
version of Windows to a lower version, you have to do a clean installation,
which means backing up your data and reinstalling your programs.

But if I currently have vista 64 bit must I buy windows 7 64 bit or do they 
make it that way?  I will read what you sent, if games is the only diff I 
may go for the less costly one.
