-=PCTechTalk=- Re: what is autoruns.exe?

I notice that Secunia even recognizes programs that are not installed. It
was a bit confusing at first for me because I have a fairly old copy of my
boot partition before I re-installed last, and Secunia was telling me these
programs need updating that I did not install on my new boot partition.
This appears to be the reason some people are getting multiple warnings
about Java, since Java installs new versions in a new folder (with version #
in folder name) and it doesn't delete the old version.

BTW Gman, Secunia was a great find. Thank you very much. It even found
updates for Photoshop that Adobe considers very important but Adobe's update
program does not find when searching for updates.

Hi Gman,

I did try out your link to download secunia. If you do not think the file
is a problem, I guess I can just leave it alone. I am fighting with my
monster movie editing program tonight trying to do some movie editing with
my little measley memory being smashed by the monster program ;0, get stuck,

reboot, let the computer rest up, lol...

thanks,

Well, I did send in a link to download the utility a while back. If it
wasn't specifically meant for you, I can only imagine you read my writeup
and decided to try it out someday. Then, Secunia came along and had you get
the latest version of it. :O)

It's safe to delete OR try. Just understand that it's not like MSConfig
where you click a box and the selected app doesn't load at startup anymore.
Autoruns is much more powerful than anything MS has directly produced for
the masses (that's us). In fact, MS was so enamored with SysInternals that
they eventually bought the company and now Mark (the genius behind
SysInternals and their vast array of serious utilities) works for them.

Peace,
Gman
