Yes, you are confusing the two (and sometimes me, but that's another story. lol). OE is Outlook Express. It comes pre-installed with Windows and only handles email and newsgroups (usenet, for many of us old timers). It does not have a calendar or any of the other fancy extras that come with Outlook, which is a much larger, bulkier & cumbersome program that's included with MS Office, a separately purchased suite. From all I can gather, you have been using Outlook Express (OE) for quite a while and have never used Outlook for email. When you install Office, however, it tries to take over ALL email functions by transferring all references for email to the bigger Outlook program. When you click on your IE's email button, you're now being directed to Outlook instead of OE. Hopefully, that's enough to help you understand the difference between OE and Outlook. I don't use IE, so I haven't come across this problem in years. Instead, I have an OE icon in my Quick Launch bar that opens OE directly without relying on registry entries to direct my request. Since I bypass the registry, no other app can take over my use of OE. :) Peace, Gman http://www.bornagainamerican.org "The only dumb questions are the ones we fail to ask" ----- Original Message ----- From: "cristy" <poppy0206@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2009 10:51 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: update that will not go away > Hi Gman, > > I think my brain is totally fried lately lol..I was just thinking > hmmm...outlook vs. outlook express, why must they sound alike!
