Hi Coleen,
have you tried using the latest undated versions of
AdAware and Spybot?
The instructions on the page outline all the steps you will need to take.
http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/t/twain-tech.asp#Overview
Manual Removal:
If you want to uninstall, you can do so easily through the add/remove
function in your control panel.
You can access your control panel by going to:
1. Start (typically, the button in the bottom left of your screen)
2. Choose SETTINGS
3. Choose CONTROL PANEL
4. Choose ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
5. Select twain-tech
6. Click on ADD/REMOVE
In the absence of an entry in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
please use on of the following methods:
For Windows98 and WindowsXP users:
a) To permanently disable the software click "Start" and then "Run" and
type the following command which unregisters the software:
regsvr32 c:\windows\twaintec.dll "
b) To completely remove the software: reboot and then Find and Delete
the file mxtarget.dll.
For Windows2000, WindowsME and WindowsNT users:
a) To permanently disable the software click "Start" and then "Run" and
type the following command which unregisters the software:
"regsvr32 c:\winnt\twaintec.dll "
b) To completely remove the software: reboot and then Find and Delete the
file twaintec.dll.
Unregister DLLs:
Unregister these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot:
systemroot+\system32\mxtarget.dll
systemroot+\system32\twaintec.dll
systemroot+\system\mxtarget.dll

systemroot+\twaintec.dll

I have this on my PC. Its some kind scumware program. I found directions
for manually removing it (AdAware and Spybot both failed at removing it)
but they are a bit complicated.

Do I need to do A, B, then A, B, again, then follow the unregister, clean,
& remove steps?
I'm a bit leary of trying the manual removal, but I don't want to pay $40
for Pest Patrol, especially since that only buys you updates for 1 yr.
Also, yesterday, same day I found this twaintec on the pc, my Photoshop
developed a problem, rendering it unusable. No other programs on my pc
seems to be affected. Do you think this twaintec could be what messed up
Photoshop?
