ML,
It sounds like you might be asking about the MSConfig utility. It
allows you to prevent the starting of some of the programs that
automatically start up with Windows. If that sounds like what you're after,
go to Start > Run and type in 'msconfig' (no quotes) and then press Enter.
The selection of startup programs can be found under the Startup tab.
