-=PCTechTalk=- Re: trouble

Donna,
This sounds like a corrupt WinMM.DLL file problem at first, but it could
go a lot deeper than that. An Invalid Page Fault error can occur for any of
the following reasons:

a. The virtual memory system becomes unstable due to a shortage of RAM.

b. The virtual memory system becomes unstable due to a shortage of free
disk space.

c. The virtual memory area is corrupted by a misbehaving application.

d. An application attempts to access data that is being modified by
another running application.

The first two causes are the most common. These conditions can also
cause a general protection fault (GPF). However, I suspect the third reason
in this instance and that one of WMP's support files (WinMM.DLL) is the
culprit.

I recall you asking about this before, but can you tell us whether
either of these files (WM Player & WinMM.DLL) has been mentioned in ALL of
the error messages you've received since this began? I'm asking because it
would help us pinpoint the possible problem and we could simply try
replacing that file (or files). If the error messages bounce around among
several different files, the problem will be more difficult to solve.

If you find that the WinMM.DLL file is present in all of the messages,
follow the instructions at the link below. (Yes, I am aware that the link
doesn't deal with WMP specifically)

If needed, the directions for extracting system files in Win98/98SE can
be found at the link below.

Let us know if this solves the problem. If not, we'll take a closer
look at your video card's driver set.

Peace,
GMan
