-=PCTechTalk=- Re: to Robert....and other stuff

If you set up a yahoo address for all your "junk" subscriptions, you can
let the spam build up and when you reach your limit it will automatically
bounce. This way you can sift through and pick up anything semi-important
and leave the junk to accumulate and while it begins bouncing some of it
will start to disappear.

If you use MailWasher and set your rules right, I know from personal
experience that you will eventually get rid of the spam. I've had some
disagreements before on this, but I have proven conclusively here that it
works. A little extra time, but well worth the effort.

On 4/24/2003 at 10:01 AM a whisper was heard, and the one known as Robert
Carneal was rumoured to have uttered....

          | <Copy>
          | Realizing bots were harvesting my email address off my site, I
          | have
          | put code in my email . But this crap still continues.
          |
          | There is no way to win with sneakiness of these people.
          | <End>
          |
          | Judith-
          |
          | Well, there is one more tactic I take whenever possible. It
          | won't work
          | here, FreeLists forbids the embedding of graphics.
          |
          | In Word, I made a "name graphic" which consists of my name and
          | email
          | address. Then when I send someone an email, instead of
          | "typing" my name at
          | the bottom, I embed the graphic. An email harvester cannot (so
          | far) extract
          | an email from a graphic.
          |
          | Then, when I send an email to someone I am not sure I want
          | email from, I
          | send it from "second address" to which I have set to "No
          | Receive." I get NO
          | email on it whatsoever- it bounces back. A real human will
          | have to
          | physically read and type in my email address. I keep expecting
          | to read that
          | a elementary school kid in [wherever] has come up with a way
          | to "read"
          | graphics and render my trick powerless, but it works well now.
          | Of course, I
          | pay a little for that second email address. An email harvester
          | can and
          | probably does pick up the second email address easily enough.
          | But when it
          | sends anything to that address it gets bounced and if it
          | bounces enough,
          | they remove that address.
          |
          | I say someone, somewhere will find a way to defeat this
          | eventually.
          |
          | Robert
